Fifth Grade General Music - Ms. Brush
All fifth grade students will have music for one cycle during the school year. This marking period, we will explore five musical elements: Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Tone, and Form with an emphasis in singing, instrumental music, and composition.

- Sing a variety of songs including patriotic music, folk songs, and spirituals
- Read and notate music using the Kodaly Method
- Create music using the web-based programs, Noteflight and Soundation4Education
- Perform on instruments alone and with others many different kinds of music
- Respond to various kinds of music by listening, analyzing, and describing
- Evaluate music and music performances
- Connect music with other arts and subjects
- Understand music as it relates to history
Expectations, Grading, and Homework
Students will be evaluated on their participation, compositions, projects and on various written and performance quizzes. Students will receive a grade from 1 - 4 based on their understanding of the material. There will not be any homework assigned unless a student does not complete an assignment during class time.
