8th Grade General Music - Ms. Brush
Every eighth grade student will have music for one marking period during the school year. The eighth grade music curriculum focuses on American popular music. Students will analyze, perform, and create music of the blues, jazz and rock styles.

- Sing and Perform a variety of songs including patriotic music, folk songs, and spirituals while harmonizing with guitar chords
- Read and Perform melodic and harmonic accompaniments on guitar
- Create music using the web-based programs, Noteflight and Soundation4Education
- Respond to various kinds of music by listening, analyzing, and describing
- Evaluate music and music performances
- Connect music with other arts and subjects
- Understand music as it relates to history
Home Project - Choice Song Analysis
Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze a song of choice, and will write a three paragraph descriptive essay. The essay should describe: Song title, band name, instrumentation, time signature, tonality (major or minor), vocal line (solo, ensemble, etc.), form and style. Students are also expected to analyze and describe the lyrical content and why the song was chosen for the project. Students are expected to drop the essay into Ms. Brush's google classroom.
